• Please dont laugh, but I can not see the answer for this either in the forums or filezilla (when I click through to the site)

I want to upload wordpress to the root directory of a new domain.
What file has the root directory, so I can upload the script.
I have looked at the files through filezilla and can not see any such named file.

    Thanks

  • most hosts use public_html or htdocs for the root.
If you don’t have either – who is the host?

    Hi Samboll,
    My host is hostgator.

Just checked on filezilla and yes I can see public_html. When I click on it the file CGI Bin shows up.
Do I put the script in there (Cgi Bin)

    Thanks for your help.

No – the cgi-bin is just another folder
if you want wordpress in the root, simply upload all of the files from the wordpress folder on your computer to the public_html folder

if you feel this is too much – hostgator has a one click install for wordpress

Its actually wordpress mu I am uploading, I wrote the question on the wrong forum, sorry.

I normally have no problem uploading through filezilla, (Banners, themes ect) its only when I double click on public_html folder, to move it to the box to transfer the script, it shows the cgi_bin file.
So I am hoping that if I just click once on public_html, and then transfer, hopefully she will transfer.

    Or
I could make another file (directory)call it say, wp, in public_html and put it in there.
Or am I a million miles away.

WP files would go into the public_html folder with cgi_bin

if you put wp into a folder called wp, it would then be accessed from the url https://www.domain.com/wp without a little tinkering

    Thanks Rvoodo.

Can I do it in such a way that to access the url it would be https://www.domain.com (without the name of the file at the end)

open the folder public_html and upload all the files and directories into this folder as it is the root.

When I open folder public_html I assume I have to make a new folder to put it into, as it only shows cgi bin.
Or can I just transfer the files over, (they would show under cgi bin file)

    exactly

Hi, I did exactly as samboll said. Now my host is saying (I contacted them as the site was not showing up)

It is currently going into a redirect loop, which appears to be because of the directory structure that you’re using for the WPMU installation. Most likely, you will need to move your WordPress files to your public_html directory, in order to correct this problem.

After I queried them more, they said,
Currently I show you have the wordpress install in /home/siteseu/public_html/wordpress-mu-2.9.2/wordpress-mu

What I would recommend is to move the files one folder up so that the files inside of /wordpress-mu/ are in the public_html, instead of 3 folders down, so you basically want the files to be directly in /home/siteseu/public_html/

So do I have to move all the files again and if so excactly where do I have to move them to.

    Thanks for any help,
