• I have been developing with this plugin and since the upgrade you’ve introduced the social sharing add-on. The problem is, I was using the social aspect of this plugin to add a floating button to the right hand side of the page – globally. I can’t seem to do that anymore. Little help?

This is about the Social Share plugin right? Questions next time are better asked on that forum ??

You can see the display options, there is an option ‘float’. You can put all of the items on that position. In the menu under the ‘options’ button there are the settings to put it on the right side.

We moved away from the global stuff since many people didn’t like it, or have exceptions. But maybe we should bring it back.

Please let me know if something is not working, so we can fix it. Also if something is unclear, we are still working on the interface to improve it.

No, that’s awesome. I think it’s great. If you are able to include specific exceptions (like the page the button points to) that would be even better. But the button that I built in THIS plugin (MaxButton) cannot be placed in that sharing float – which is why this question started. MaxButton enabled you to create a great little custom button. I just want to float that on the right hand side of every page on the site (potentially every page except the one that the button links to)

I’m quite willing to think about specific exceptions, but it’s a bit tricky on how to do that exactly. We want to keep it beginner friendly as well and the current settings board might already by a bit confusing.

And yes the possiblity to use MaxButtons will come to the plugin ( PRO version ), for the time being I suggest to keep using the old social share you already had in place. This is scheduled for next update, we are working on it.

I USED TO be able to do this before you divorced the two but no longer. I’m trying to drop the short code along with some CSS styling in one of the Genesis Simple Hooks to solve this issue so I don’t need two plugins to do this.

The installation I have in place on another site still works the way it used to – I just can’t modify it. New installations don’t allow for this functionality though….

I agree it’s not great as it is this situation. We did some research and found out pretty much nobody uses the share functions on the plugin, so we decided to give it it’s on place.

You said you can’t modify it? That should still be possible if you had some social share settings before on the installation.

If you need it on another site, you can as a workaround copy the table ‘maxbuttons_collections’ to the other site’s database. The plugin checks if there are old settings, then the old functions should be there for a bit.

let me try dropping the MaxButton shortcode in one of the Simple Hooks and wrapping some CSS around it. That might do the job. I’m kinda surprised that nobody really used the button itself as a locked position float. Sharing buttons are almost ubiquitous and we don’t even use a plugin for them. We plug it in through Cloudflare and call it a day. No need to have that stuff wearing on your own servers when CF will carry the load and inject it on every page so easily.

Good luck. Let me know if that works.
