What Happened to Captions?

I’m using WordPress 4.2.1 with Lightview Plus 3.1.3. For 5 years, the file name of my photos have appeared as a visible caption in slide shows. With the latest updates (I did both at the same time) they are no longer visible. I spent an hour renaming 172 photos – all for nothing. Even old posts now no longer have captions. What happened? Extremely frustrated.
