What happens to my content if I uninstall PlugNedit?

That’s a good question and it depends on the template you have installed.
Different templates have different programming, with different display settings. The plugin does set a min-width page attribute because its based on absolute position on the page. If you keep the plugin installed the pages will should always display correctly.
We have years of Dev work into and have no plan of taking the program offline.

The question is what happens when the PlugNedit server is not available? These pages are constructed using a web service which key components to page construction and editing resides on a 3rd party server.

We are more a web page builder then a blog editor and like many of the website builders online you would have to use a different editor to edit the content (One that supports layers). The basic wordpress editor does not support editing layers and most of the editors that are free online do not. We are just trying to bring more options to the online community.

Great plugin, however, I don’t see a clear answer to the question. Does the content created by your plugin stay on my website if I uninstall your plugin that I used to create the content? Or if your servers are somehow not available for a time, does it affect the content I created with your plugin.

We are aware that the editor is located on a remote server.

My question has not been answered which if answered would reveal the servers are an integral part of having your articles available. I do not like services I rather have local access, the same model of which WordPress is built.

No, that isn’t correct your content will still display and does not require any contact with the plugin server.

The PNE page builder section which builds pages outside your template would always display correctly.

Depending on the template used the plugin may be required for blog entries to continue to display correctly, however we can reformat the design of the blog entry to allow the page to display correctly even if removed. The reason we set it up this way is the wordpress editor cannot edit web layers and it was assumed anyone using the editor for blog entries would leave the plugin installed. This may have been a incorrect assumption.

We will try to post the new update to the editor by the end of the week to allow proper display without the plugin installed.

So answers.

1. Pages built with PlugNedit are not dependent on our server to display content, at no time does the plugin contact the editor or have any need to other then when you are editing a page.

2. If PlugNedit becomes unavailable you would have to use a editor that can support the editing of layers to edit those pages.

I hope this answered some questions. I welcome any others because I know it is a concern about it be located on the PlugNedit server.
Although we do not have the reputation like Google they have Google Docs located on the Google servers. Sometimes it is not practical to distribute the editor.

Sorry I so poorly explained it’s structure in earlier post but sometimes what seems clear to the developer is not as clear to the user.

I understand that point completely. lol

With all the “security” concerns people have nowadays, requiring the use of remote servers is a little bit of a concern for many people, as well as the concern for lost content in the event the server isn’t available at any time. I do understand the desire to keep the software remotely for a few reasons I can think of. And providing the software at no charge for what it does doesn’t seem to me a reasonable solution for you.

However, is there a way to make the software available via payment at some point, so that people can have the option of having it hosted locally?

I realize this is going off topic and I apologize for that.

The blog entries are free, and we don’t make any money for the use of the plugin.

We do have a stand alone web site builder that we will some day charge for or display ads on. Sorta like old yahoo geocities.

The support of our users by allowing the link to be on blog entries is really what we are looking for so when we have our basic web site builder top notch we will have the traffic to support it. (off topic.)

Basically, I wrote the program in Cold Fusion and wordpress is PHP.
I do not have the skills to write the program in PHP to start.

I always had the vision of a Plug N Edit program, that would connect to other sites for editing content.

Via HTTP post
Via FTP
Via Load file from computer.

If I were to have it developed in PHP it may become a option but then the license concerns come up.

The current editor loads pages as versions and then brings up the proper javascript to edit the page.

We are currently on Version 4 and other page version built are loaded according to the proper Version.

So basically instead of paying for new editor upgrades and license we are hosting all version new and old on the server.

When you build newer pages with the editor it allows for greater options to be used while supporting older version of pages built with the program.

This is PlugNedit’s first year online and may become locally available hosted in the future if we find a proper venue for the program.
