I have used OceanWP since I started using Elementor but I have to ask, what is the difference between one theme and another? Before Elementor Themes were critical to the design layout of the website but now Elementor lets you design the layout on the fly. Drag a section, add a couple coulmns and stick in the widgets. Yea, and if I don’t like it I delete a column and change it. My question is why are there so many discussions about what themes to use? Do some themes have options that others don’t? Do some people just get a them and fill in the blocks without customizing them? I like OceanWP but if there are better options I would like to at least check them out.

  • Hi Les,

Before Elementor, there where, and still are, other pagebuilders that could help non coders to style things their theme did not cover.

People who know how to style using css, can style it by adding their own css, as a matter of fact, even now with a pagebuilder and a full featured theme, one can still add own css if wanted/needed.

There are so many themes, some offer lots of options ( free or premium ) some are rather “bare bone” frames. These are often used by people who like to style most of it using their own css and or use lots of moderations.

Although OceanWP is my favorite theme at the moment, there are many others.

    My choise was based on:

    – how flexible the theme was,
    – what features are included even in the free version ( for my low budget clients ),
    – how the support was
    – if it played well with Elementor
    – last but not least, well coded and fast

If you want to test other themes, you can easely create test environments and play with different themes, that is what I did, after deciding to change themes.

There are lots of them, so you must have some free time to spare ??

Thanks for the input Logo. Prior to Elementor I used Artisteer to create my own themes. The thing that made it cumbersome was any time you wanted to add an area or change the size of a column or change the color of the link you had to go back and modify the Theme, upload it and reinstall it. If you had made any css changes, those had to be redone also. Since you have looked at other themes, as an example what does some other theme do that OceamWP can’t? Is seems most of the functionality is in the widgets and plugins.
I can’t really see leaving OceanWP, It and Elementor have been a very effective and flexible tool. ??

Haha, yes I remember, I practically converted you to OceanWP and Elementor.

It is such a long list that it is not really possible to tell all the differences.
Must say I doubted ( after testing even other themes ) between OceanWP and GeneratePress.

That last one came very close, in fact payed the premium of it too.
But then stumbled upon OceanWP and for example, in GenereatePress I needed to buy the premium just to be able to change menu items. Not sure if this is still the case now.

Their support was also great, loading of pages great, but also there was an issue with not being able to grab the first row of elementor when in Transparent header, and OceanWP fixed that almost immediatelly and permenantly.

Generate press kindly offered a workaround as well, but, at the time, not in their theme itself, we needed to add some custom code for that to be fixed if I remember correctly.

So, I bought the premium of GenereatePress too, but was swept of my feet with OceanWP free options and support is amazing too.

That is way I sticked to OceanWP and never looked back.
Are there other awesome themes out there, sure, but why change when you have found something that just works?
