• I’ve seen some blogs with an option to ‘Subscribe by Email’ as well as or in place of the usual RSS feed link.

I’d much rather have a ‘subscribe by Email’ function on my blog, as none of my regular followers use newsreaders, they just want an email every now and again if something is updated.

So how do I add a ‘subscribe by email’ function?

  • Hey,

That can be done by burning your RSS feed to feedburner.
    1. Sign up with feedburner (usually using gmail email account)
    2. Once you sign in, enter your feed address (right click your rss icon, and choose “copy link location”, enter that address in feedburner feed address.
    3. Enter title of your feed, and hit next, then choose “publicize” tab.
    4. Choose email subscription, and get the code.
    5. Copy and paste in your code in text widget, drag it to your sidebar. Email form will be displayed, and you can style it in your css
    Goodluck!

Hey Kim, thanks for the very precise directions – it works!! OK, not the most stylish of boxes, but I’ll have to get my head around my CSS… ??

Do you have to use Feedburner? I’m in favour of non-monopoly services, or preferably something that doesn’t use any outside service at all. Thought there might be some home-made widgets that don’t involve big name services?

Many thanks for your help ??

it has a widget you can add to dynamic sidebar as well as shortcode which you can post to Page or Post

thanks Merci, looks quite a powerful plugin.

Unfortunately I can’t see any way to make it do what it claims, namely:

allowing users to publically subscribe (Public Subscribers) by submitting their email address in an easy to use form

Can’t see any public form anywhere in the plugin settings..

In Dashboard Settings > Subscribe2 page, you will see Appearance heading and under that, check “Show the Subscribe2 button in Write toolbar” and/or “Enable Subscribe2 Widget” and Save options.

You can then add the Subscribe2 widget via Appearance > Widgets and this will generate the form in your dynamic sidebar. You can also click on S2 button in Write toolbar to add the form in any page.

    Hi,

    Also check with this plugin:

    Thanks,
