    Hi Everyone
First time Elementor user here, I updated Elementor got this message on my dashboard:
    Elementor Data Updater
Database update process is running in the background. Taking a while?
Click here to run it now

I did some google searches about it and only saw scary things about that, is it safe to run the data updater? What happens to the website and database if I do?

I did notice whenever I run Elementor, my computer’s fan ramps up significantly, does that have anything to do with the Elementor Data Updater?

Are you running the website with Elementor on your computer? If so, that may explain it.

The website itself doesn’t make my PC’s fan run, but when I edit a page that has elementor on it, I noticed my fan ramps up. Also, is it safe to run the Elementor Data Updater?

The best place to ask what the Elementor data updater does would be in the support forum for Elementor: https://www.ads-software.com/support/plugin/elementor/

However, for any update of database structure (i.e. not specific for Elementor), the following usually applies:
    – It’s a one-time task where the web server will have to work through a certain amount of posts in the database.
    – The more data that needs to be crunched, the longer time the update will take. (So in this case: if you’ve got many posts with Elementor content since before, then the database upgrade will need more processor time.)
    – After a database update you may not be able to downgrade to the previous version of whatever is using this data structure.
    – Therefore: Always good to save a database update before running the database update.

From your description, I guess that you’re running WordPress on a local install on your own computer.
When WordPress just builds a page that it will send to your browser, it will only raise the workload for your processor for a fraction of a second. But when the database upgrade kicks in, it may use a thread in the processor at full load for a more extended period of time, so it’s only natural that the processor cooling will start working.

    Hi Tor-Bjorn
I think I posted this thread in the support forum you linked to? (unable to post screenshot, but it’s there)
thank you for letting me know what happens to the data structure after an update, however I am still failing to find what happens to my website and database when I run Elementor Data Updater.

And I am not running the site locally, it’s on a staging area on SiteGrounds. Elementor had never caused my PC’s fan go crazy like this, but I noticed it making my fan ramp up ever since I got the request from Elementor to run the Data Updater. – I want to know what it does, and is it safe? I am unsure due to the lack of information I can find on Google.

ok. I can only blame myself. Shouldn’t try to respond when I’m too tired. ??

If it’s the web browser that spins up, then it’s weird. Even though it might theoretically be possible to run a data updater in Javascript in the browser, it’s quite an inefficient approach.

Are you sure that you’re using the official plugin from a solid source?

    Hey @hitsukieri

Elementor data updater basically is a database update process for a major release.
