What Is The Best Way to Change Website Theme

Are you using a custom theme now? If not you should be able to just change the theme without losing any information. Themes on www.ads-software.com are built to be changed so you don’t lose your data.

I am using a premium theme (paid) and want to change to another premium them. But as an example, when I changed to the new theme the menu got populated with lots of tab listings that weren’t on my original theme. I thought that moving over page content would be easier than deleting and juggling content.

I am not sure if I am making myself clear, but if anyone has some tips on switching themes, please let me know. Because of major theme design differences, I don’t think the content always falls into the correct location?

That all depends also on whether or not you have made any modifications to the visual look of the theme and how you made them. If you used a plugin then those change may/may not take effect depending on how the themes are coded and structured. If it is the theme that handles custom styling you should have no worries about reverting back.

As far as transferring pages? There is no need since all you’re really doing is changing the way the site looks not functions.

Coming from a theme review background the best things to really do are make sure that the current theme doesn’t add any shortcodes, sliders, galleries, specific post types that won’t transfer over easily.

I think that plugins and shortcodes are definitely influencing the way the new theme is displaying the content.

I want to use a website theme for this non-profit website and when I turn it over to the group I want them to be able to make content changes easily. But I want to make the website look really good!

That really depends on who your target audience is. Think about who they want to see the site or who they think will view the site. You want to cater to the end user.

What information is that user looking for so you want to be able to access that information quickly and easily. It would be like a pizza place having a menu of toppings five feet from the door to show any customer coming in what is available. You don’t want to place that menu in the back alley and force people to look.

But that is getting off topic if I keep talking about it. ??

As for the key take away for switching themes think about what changes functionality-wise versus presentational-wise. If the theme uses shortcodes try and find a plugin that can can substitute it otherwise you’re going to end up editing a lot of posts/pages. Same goes for themes that use post types like “portfolio, gallery” types. ??
