• I am wondering if we’re getting errors, because some things aren’t properly communicated with end users, and we don’t understand what we’re doing.

What is the difference for us, bloggers, publishers, content creators, between:

    1. I don’t declare a legal basis for my property
    2. I define my legal basis CUSTOMIZE SETTINGS

If I am regular Joe, with a website, wanting to put Google Adsense ads, which choice should I go for, and If I have to go for option 2, which options should I properly choose?

  • Great question, and we have some site where we define legal basis (according to the outdated user guide) and no ads appearing. If we choose don’t declare, ads are appearing.

You likely only to choose the “I don’t declare a legal basis for my property”

You only need declare a legal basis if you need consent for yourselves (Most users do not need this and can stick with the I don’t declare a legal basis for my property option. There is also an option for additional google consent, you may also might or might not need the Google additional vendors enabled as adSense is supported through the TCF. It might be that there are vendors that Google uses you need, so in that case enabling Google addtl vendors would be good to add. For the average user the default consent settings should work.

There is additional information here about consent in the Choice setup guide and the IAB has additional information on consents here which might be useful

Some common stacks if you do need to customize would be:

@arthuroadam if you also declare special purpose number 2 – actively scanning a device – then Google will not work with you. Could that be the issue with ads not working?
