What is the diffrence between main theme and child theme

  • I am a beginner of WordPress.

    Please any body can explain

    What is the difference between main theme and child theme. why we need to use the child theme. for what purpose?

  • Making changes via a child theme means that:

    – you have a fallback in the unedited parent theme if anything goes wrong as a result of your changes.

    – when you upgrade the parent theme, your changes will not be wiped out.

    – new features in the updated parent theme should be automatically inherited by the child theme.
