What is the easiest way to set this up in Woocommerce? Or is there another plugin that would be better for the task?

A business that sells a variety of products customized with various school logos, needs the ability to, on the chosen website product page, upon the click of a link in a drop down menu list of schools, display a page with a picture of the product using the specific school logo. I dont need a shopping cart or purchase online ability.

For example, if you click into the ‘T-Shirts’ product page, a picture of a generic T-shirt and text display along with a ‘Select Your School’ button. When the button is clicked a menu appears displaying the list of 60 schools. When you click into one of the schools a page displays a picture of the T-Shirt with the specific school logo on it.
Are there any existing plugins or wp themes with this functionality?

    Thanks,
    Mark

  • I think you could use the variable product type. There would be 60 variations, each can have its own image. When the user selects their school from the dropdown, the variation image switches in. Optionally, each variation can have its own description.

In your case, delete the cart and checkout pages from the pages list, and hide the Add-to-Cart button with some custom css.

A Portfolio plugin (there are several) could show the logos and might be more less heavy for this application. You may not get the dropdown, but you could show the images in alphabetical order of school name.

Thank you very much lorro. I was thinking the same thing. Would you happen to know where I can see a frontend online example of this type of implementation?

    Lorro,

Do you think it would be difficult to setup a one click ‘school list’ in the nav menu such as shown here?

There are lots of menu plugins, and I’d expect some of them would be able to do that. Look at plugins at www.ads-software.com/plugins/ and codecanyon.com. I’m not able to recommend one.

Actually Lorro, I didnt mean to request a menu plugin recommendation from you. I was trying to ask if it would be possible to get a woocommerce product ‘variations list’ link.

I haven’t used Woocommerce in a long time, and I have a feeling this is a dumb question, but wanted to know from you if you think what Im trying to do is easy in Woocommerce, namely, to display a list of the 60 variations (schools in my case) anywhere on the site where upon the user could make a selection, go to the unique page associated with the specified variation?

With a variable product, there isn’t a page for each variation, its just one page with a dropdown box. I don’t know an out-of-the-box way of linking to the page such that the appropriate option is pre-selected. However, there is a plugin which enables this:

Wow awesome. I’ll check it out. Thanks so much Lorro!
