What key to sort by in front-end JavaScript framework with wp-json

I’m am using WordPress as a CMS for an Ember.js application. Example: I created a customs post type for ‘faq’s. They can be reordered in the WordPress admin, but this is not reflected in the application that consumes it. Currently, I’m not actually filtering by anything – so, it’s no wonder the order is not meaningful. How does this plugin store order? If I were to filter by ‘date’ – this would not be the same. Let me know your thoughts! : )
