• I am such a novice with all of this, so my apologies for the lack of detail and official terminology – I hope I can ask my question in a way others will understand.

I have a website through Blue Host with WordPress installed on it. I have someone who is designing my website (a blog) – background, header, etc.

The designer needs to be able to log in to my dashboard in order to be able to do what she needs to do. I figured out how to create a new user, but not sure what type of permission to give her? There are a lot of options: Administrator, Editor, Contributor, etc. I don’t want to give her my user name and password into my administrator account.

    Your help is much appreciated!

    Thank you

  • Personally, I’d give them administrator access. There’s two reasons for that. First, if they are doing anything that involves the admin area, they’ll most likely need administrator access in order to do it. Second, I’m a developer myself, so I know what it’s like to not have the acces that you need to get something done.

However it does come down to trust. if you can trust your designer/developer, then let them have access. If you don’t, then don’t give them access, but also don’t work with them.

If you have any concerns at all, make sure that you take a complete backup of the files and the database before you let them do anything.

To make the point clear, give them their own account with administrator access, there can be more than one administrator.
There is no reason to give them access to your login.

@oldglow, yep administrator access is the way to go. And if they’re designing something that needs to go in your theme it’ll mean giving them FTP access as well.

@oldglow, i see no problem if you give them your admin credential, you make them do whatever thing they need to do, I believe this is a new site if they are done, at the end of the day just change all the credentials if you don’t want them to work again, but if you want that person to continue working/maintaining your site, give them another admin account + ftp they need it both
