What Plugin will give me Tumblr-style video and audio previews?

I’m looking for a wordpress theme that uses Masonry, emulating popular ones on Tumblr like Tesselate. I can sort out how to build my own homepage out, but I absolutely want videos and audio to play ON the homepage like Tumblr. I haven’t been able to sort out exactly how to do that, whether through a plugin or other means. Any ideas? There are a lot of premium themes that have this feature but none of them have the other design elements I want. It seems easier to figure out how to make the media work the way I want and go from there.

The MediaGrid plugin looks like an option for doing everything at once, but looking at the demo, media plays in a popup box rather within the page. I’d prefer in-page play.
