What setting displayed handcrafted excerpts?

I wonder what I have wrong in the settings. This post has a handcrafted excerpt but it does not display. https://quietpaddlingwisconsin.com/2015/08/21/turtle-creek/ on the category listings page https://quietpaddlingwisconsin.com/category/turtle-creek/

This setting:
Generate excerpts even if a post has a custom excerpt attached.

When checked – shows generated excerpt (current setting)
When unchecked – shows full post
