• For my site, I’m currently using the blacklist plugin, an auto comment moderation plugin, and the built-in moderate comments/blacklist comment section in the options.

I was wondering which takes precendence as I have words that I put in the built-in blacklist section but the comment is still sent to moderation. The blacklist plugin is the older of the 2 plugins I’m using for spam as well. Also, if I have the word in both the built-in moderation box and the blacklist box, which one gets checked first? I’d like to just autodelete the spam I’m getting as it’s moved from poker to mortgage spam, instead of having it sent to moderation.

That would be the Blacklist plugin interfering with the Blacklist feature. Disable the Blacklist plugin, it has been made obsolete by the Blacklist feature. Also, do not share words between the Blacklist and the Moderation List. If the word is in the Blacklist, the offending comment will be deleted. You do not have to worry about moderation.

so if I have poker in the built-in blacklist and poker-chip in moderation list, the blacklist will detect first and delete the word poker-chip since it has the word poker in it?

If “poker” is in the Blacklist, it will delete all comments containing “poker”, including “poker-chip”, “pokering”, “pokers”, etc. See: https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Combating_Comment_Spam#Comment_Blacklist

hmm, currently I’m blacklisting the word mortgage, but it’s still making it to moderation. I’m putting each word on it’s own line as well in the blacklist box. Could this be caused by my auto-comment moderation taking affect before the blacklist? Weird thing is, I’m not getting anymore spam for poker which is at the top of my blacklist.

    1. Make sure the words aren’t duplicated between the Blacklist and Moderation list.

    2. Make sure that you have deactivated the Blacklist Plugin.

    3. Yes, Auto-Comment-Moderation will take precedence over the Blacklist.

Ah ok, I have my blacklist plugin disabled, and have checked to make sure no words are duplicated in blacklist/moderation boxes. I’ve now turned off auto-comment-moderation and hopefully I’ll be able to see if the spam is just completely deleted. Thanks for the help macmanx
