"What the file" does… nothing.

Are you able to disable all other plugins and switch your theme to Twenty Twelve? Just to rule out an other plugin or theme is causing a conflict.

I find that kind of a ridiculous suggestion. No one is going to deactivate all their plugins and switch themes on a live site and then try to figure which of their other plugins “might be a problem”. Nice idea, doesn’t show up in my toolbar. So I will deactivate and move on.

There is no magic bullet in these situations. This is just the start of basic troubleshooting and is a process of elimination deliberately designed to locate the root cause as quickly as possible by first removing the most obvious and common culprits via a series of (often) temporary steps.

Do you want to locate and, hopefully, fix the problem on your site? If “yes”, then please help us to help you and carry out the changes that we suggest.

Two weeks ago I went ahead and disabled everything. The site (at the time) was still running on twenty twelve, so that was easy.

No joy, the plugin still did exactly nothing. after that, getting a running site was more important than getting a convenience plugin working, so I pressed on with the real work.

Now, having a moment to breath, I’ve also gone ahead and reinstalled it this morning and tested it, even backing off my currently installed plugins and switching back to twenty twelve again. Nope.

Not working.

Could you please share your PHP version? And I assume your running your site on a Linux + Apache environment?

Small Ps. to car57: Sorry you find my way of helping others ridiculous, as esmi said there is no magic bullet and you’ll be surprised how many times a theme or other plugin causes conflicts. And a small tip, don’t edit your website live but setup a small local development environment. It’s really a 5 minute job using WAMP OR XAMPP.

I’m having the same problem. I started by disabling every plugin (except What The File, naturally ?? ) with no luck. I then changed my theme from Hybrid Theme by ThemeFit to 2013 and then it worked.

Well if you change themes then the incorrect blog post page will be edited, or am I missing something? My theme is UVC (Ultimate Video Creator) and I see nothing.

If you switch themes the files that What The File will show are indeed changed. However this is most likely not why What The File won’t work in your custom theme, most likely your custom theme has some CSS that disable What The File from showing in the admin bar. Do you have a link to the “UVC” theme so I can check why it’s not working with this theme?

What The File hooks into your admin bar, if you’ve disabled the admin bar the plugin will not work.

I understand, but my theme is custom made.
I bought the website.
And i don’t know how to get it back!
