• I accidentally created a page instead of a post. I found this plug-in and changed the page to a post. Great, thank you, I donated.

But… the old page URL is still out there on my web site, even though there’s no WP content any more at that address.

    1. The FAQ needs to answer the obvious question “what happens to the old URL?” !
In the forum topic “Preserve url permalink issue” the esteemed author comments

Changing a post’s type will always change it’s URL to whatever the rule is for that new type. There is no way (in this plugin) to retain the old URL, and it’ a bit outside the scope of what this plugin will probably offer.

The way to do this would be to save the old type/URL in metadata, and redirect to that old URL if it exists.

That makes sense, but then why is there any content at the old URL? It no longer shows up in my console under Pages. Is the content temporarily cached? Would the content go away if I ever rebuilt my site? I can’t be the only user with these questions, please answer them in the Post Type Switcher FAQ.

    2. I’ve already promoted the old URL, so I’d like the old URL to redirect, or it could have a banner “I goofed, refreshing to the correct blog post” with a meta equiv refresh. I could add the latter if I directly edit the content at the old URL, but again I can’t see what’s producing that content. It seems the way to do this is with a redirect plug-in. (One mistake and my site is festooned with plug-ins ?? )

    Thanks again.

Wow, thank you! I appreciate that very much.

You’ve done your research, and I appreciate that also. ??

If I understand correctly, you’ll probably want to install this plugin next:

    https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/redirection/

(Don’t worry, it’s a good one, and worth installing given your situation.)

With that plugin, you’ll be able to control your redirects from inside of the WordPress Admin area. You can basically make any URL within your site redirect to any other URL within your site.

Specifically, you can tell WordPress to bounce people that visit the URL for the old post type to the URL for the new post type.

Hopefully that helps some. Feel free to reply here if I’ve misunderstood. Thanks again for your donation. That’s very awesome of you!
