I have a lot of reading to do I realize, but I thought I would ask some basic questions:

I’m a designer and I’m quite experienced with CSS and HTML, but I’m not too familiar with WordPress. Basically my goal is to build a website for a real estate agent using WordPress (which I plan to learn as I go).

I want to use a theme because I don’t want to start from scratch, BUT I want to be able to customize the look as much as possible. Does that mean I should be looking at creating a Child theme? What are the limitations of a Child theme?

My second question is, what do i look for in a parent theme? Do I have to find a parent theme that has the features that I need?

Any advice or links to helpful resources would be appreciated.

    Thanks

If you are using anything other than a specific stater theme, yes. Have you reviewed child themes?

Or you could use a stater theme like underscores.

Thanks Esmi. I’m going to play around with underscores.

Actually I’m probably going to use a theme called WPCASA which is a specific real estate framework. They also have Child Themes which look good, but as I said I want to completely customize the look. So should I purchase one of their Child themes and edit the Child theme, or should I purchase just the parent theme and make my own Child theme.

(still trying to wrap my head around all of this)

    Thanks

Personally, I’ve never purchased a theme. Why bother when there are about 2,000 free, quality reviewed, themes in https://www.ads-software.com/themes/
