What would you like to see in a theme?

  • Hey, people.

    I’ve been working with WordPress for a while now, and I absolutely love it. I’ve created a couple online magazines based on WordPress in the recent past (Split Magazine and Nirali Magazine), and since then, I’ve been getting quite a few e-mails requesting me for a magazine-style WordPress theme.

    I’ve finally decided to create and release a theme to the community. This is the first time I’m creating a theme for release to the general public (all my themes before this have been custom-made for clients) — what, according to you, makes a good WordPress theme (colours, specific features, compatibility with any specific plugins, stuff like that)? I’ll do my best to create a good theme based on your feedback ??

    Hey, people.

    Sorry for the delay. Lots of things going on at work for me, so I haven’t quite found the time to get started on the theme as yet. I have started work on my blog, though, and it will hopefully be up very soon.

    AnthonyP: I did reply to your e-mail, guess you didn’t receive my reply. I’ll re-send it.

    Any updates on the magazine theme, halfbloodprince? So far, many of the magazine themes I have seen are still very, well, bloggish. Good luck to you.

    @ Family-Guy: What magazine themes have you seen? I haven’t even seen any themes that look anything like a magazine theme. Please share if you know of any…

    @adalsteinn, off the top of my head, two that are often called “magazine-style” are Nautica and Gridlock.

    i love gridlock too, but it only allows 3 stories on the front page and the designer says this is to make it ‘simple’…which is fine, but anyone heard of any magazine with only 3 stories? anyone figured out how to get it to more than 3.

    halfblood, should we give up on your or are you making your theme…also you never got back to me via email about a custom project

    anyone else know of other good magazine themes?

    I also found Gridlock overly complicated. And I’m surprised there aren’t more magazine themes around. It really does change the whole complexion of a blog into something a bit different; I for one am tired of the “blog look”.

    Take a look at this BMW site. It’s not WordPress but the design is stunning…and would be perfect as a magazine-blog template. Anyone good at copying designs? ??

    Now that I’ve finally got the blog up, I’ll be posting a lot to the blog, and will get started on the theme straight away. Thank you for your patience.

    There is also another nice WP magazine, which I can’t remember its name (other than that begins with “G”). I believe it was a news/political magazine. I will respond back, when I find its name.

    I’m very excited to see this new magazine theme. Any time table for its release?
