• Hey gang,

According to pingdom, a typical page on my WordPress site hosted on HostGator takes over 20seconds to load.

I’ve already installed a caching plugin, and don’t have any plugins active that I don’t absolutely need. I’m wondering what a reasonable load time is for the average WordPress site, and whether I could get a better load time by moving to a faster hosting provider?

    Thanks,
    Graham

Twenty seconds is nuts. I had that and worse with a previous host, and when they couldn’t do better, I switched hosts. Best thing I did was leave them.

Couple seconds to load is common for me now, on a shared server no less.

Same here, 2 to 6 seconds on a shared server, depending upon how busy the server might be, and I do not use a cache.

Oh, and I’m not using a caching plugin, either.

Thanks for the reply. So who’s your host? Can you point me to your site so I can test it myself?

It’s not too bad, but hostgator isn’t the best host around.

I use BlueHost, and you can get to one of my sites by clicking my username.

I am Hostgator customer for several years. I think their support started getting much slower in the last 6 months. Previously I was getting a reply in less than 20 min, now it take more than a 6-7 hours. In addition, I am experience huge downtime, nearly an hours in the last 2-3 months, every month. Loading time, terrible!
