The Facebook plugin for WordPress version 1.5.3 adds support for removing a Facebook account associated with a WordPress user, adds a debug view of essential Facebook Login information for your WordPress site’s Facebook application, improves publishing scheduled posts to a Facebook Timeline or Page, and adds popular WP_Embed providers as Open Graph protocol markup.

    Remove a Facebook account

The Facebook account section of the WordPress profile screen now includes a button to remove Facebook account details from the user profile and delete permissions granted by the Facebook user to the WordPress site’s Facebook application.

    Facebook Login debug

A few webmasters reported issues associating a Facebook account with a WordPress user profile due to an incomplete configuration of the site’s Facebook application settings. Version 1.5.3 includes a new debug section for Facebook application settings related to Facebook Login functionality, highlights missing settings with suggestions based on WordPress settings, mentions which WordPress site administrators are capable of editing these values on the Facebook Developers site (if the current viewer does not have adequate permission), and links each field to its input on the Facebook Developers site.

    Improved scheduled post support

Scheduled posts should execute more smoothly for sites executing scheduled events on public-facing pageviews. Posts transitioning to public or deleted status should be processed by the Facebook plugin for WordPress regardless of the current query type.

(beta) Popular WordPress Embed links as Open Graph protocol

WordPress will attempt to automatically convert a link placed on its own line inside a post into HTML suitable for your website (embeds). Version 1.5.3 of the Facebook plugin for WordPress recognizes Instagram photo links in your post content and exposes a large Instagram photo in Open Graph protocol for display on Facebook alongside a summary of your posts.

A post displayed in a video post format with a YouTube or Vimeo video URL will expose Flash and iframe players to Facebook in Open Graph protocol for video playback directly from shared Facebook stories.

Support for popular WordPress Embeds as Open Graph protocol should be considered a “beta” and an experiment in usefulness. The feature does not currently make calls to embed APIs to request additional data; if the feature is popular and useful new providers may be added with additional metadata support.
