• When working on a WP site, I do a lot of css styling. Now I open them in my server managing software (Webmin), but the editor is crappy. Is there a better method for this, other than downloading, editing on pc and uploading again?

    Cheers!

  • You can do it via your site admin under Appearance. Just remember to make a copy of the whole thing before you change it so you can put it back to the way it was if necessary.

    Thanks, I don’t have an option there, but that’s because of the theme I’m using. This theme also has a box where I can edit css, but I was talking about a good css editor, that has neat auto-complete options and on/off buttons next to a line, like firebug.

    – bump – Must be someone out there using a better method…

    are you on mac or windows?

    Personally, IMHO the best CSS editor is a simple text editor (e.g. NotePad++ in Windows; I use Kate in Linux).

    Also, if you’re merely doing testing/iterative enhancement, you should look into Firefox Firebug, or Chrome Developer Tools.

    @theotherlebowski: I’m on a mac.
    @chip Bennet: Like I said, I’d like a solution that doesn’t involve downloading and uploading the files again. So no desktop editors. And, like I said, I already use Firebug (and Chrome Developer tools). But thanks anyway ??

    What about the Firebug plugin Firefile would that fit the bill

    the bad news is there’s no real solution to this (other than that firefile do-dah): either you get a desktop app like dreamweaver or dashcode (mac) and edit locally then upload or you use the built in theme editor feature of wordpress and make use of exploratory tools like firebug and developer for chrome to see what you need to change.

    @lockettpots: That’s exactly what I was looking for! Only can’t get it to work… But thanks anyway.

    I have found and use very nice free CSS, HTML, PHP Editor – Codelobster PHP Edition. I recommend it for everyone.
