• Hi guys,

I just set up my WordPress blog today (https://www.blogipol.com) and so far it’s working great! The only real problem I’ve run into is that the GoDaddy free hosting ad loads multiple times when I’m in admin and adds another instance about every 30 seconds the whole time I’m in it :). One quick question:

What’s the best way to get indexed by Google? Will this forum post get the job done?

    Thanks,

    Chris

Just realized responding to my own post wasn’t necessary – sorry. Thanks for your help, aimeeish!

https://www.google.com/addurl/ – you can add your URL to Google. It only takes a couple of days for your site to be indexed into Google.

If someone googles blogipol in the next couple of days, then a link to your website will most definitely show up. But say if someone types in “blog” in Google, then you have an obviously extremely slim chance of having your site pop up in first 100 pages.

Personally, I feel short and quick keywords, website title containing keywords, and most importantly, time are the best ways for your site to show up in Google. You also need a specific subject on which your blog is about…so you can’t just have a broad range of keywords, etc.

If someone was to google ythe subject of this post or your website, then, yes, it would help your site to have more search results, although it won’t get the job “done.”

Also, your site loading multiple times seems to be GoDaddy’s fault, not WordPress’s. GoDaddy, in my opinion, is a terrible hosting service. ??

Submit your URL to google as aimeeish said above. There are some other online lists you can submit to as well, such as Yahoo, and DMOZ.

But don’t spam forum and comment boxes just to get your URL in — that’s a quick way to get a reputation as a spammer, and if you go overboard, Google can actually ban you from their listings. For the same reason, please be very, very wary of ever hiring “SEO” services. That’s a good way to waste your money and get your site banned.

Best way to get good rankings — produce content people find worth reading or viewing. Appeal to a niche. Participate on forums and comment on other people’s blogs when you have something worth saying.

Oh, and social networking sites like MySpace, Facebook, StumbleUpon, LinkedIn, etc. are a great place to promote your blog — but again, use a light touch. If you are just trying to self-promote all the time, people will figure it out pretty quickly and ignore you.

I have a lot of my web links attached to signatures in forums. I never actually thought about being “banned from google” and if attaching links to signatures could get me banned. Hrm.

No, that wouldn’t do it. That’s fine.
