I am new to WordPress software..

    recently installed wp 3.0

When i go to my homepage, i see about 4 or 5 widgets there by default. (Categories, Blogroll, Meta)
But if I go into the dashboard and into the widgets screen it shows no widgets active under the sidebar heading??? so i have no way to remove them.. WTH!

  • WordPress displays some default widgets if you dont have any ‘Widgets’ in your sidebar. Once you add a widget to your sidebar, all the other stuff will go away.
Or if you dont want anything in your sidebar, you would need to edit the sidebar.php template.

WordPress displays some default widgets if you dont have any ‘Widgets’ in your sidebar.

wordpress does not do this directly.
it is due to the theme authors to place some code with the same functionality as widgets into the sidebar, so the theme is presentable and can be used without the ‘real’ widgets.

in most themes this is true:

Once you add a widget to your sidebar, all the other stuff will go away.
