I’m a novice, just installed WP 2.5, and I would like to segment my posts, since they’re too long.

When should I use MORE vs NEXTPAGE?

  • As far as I know the MORE tag is used when you want to show just an excerpt from your post on the main “blog” page. If people want to read the entire post, they can then click on the title or the more link.

The NEXTPAGE tag is to break a long post into pages on the actual URL of the blog entry. I believe it works on pages as well as posts.

PS You should know that many people think multiple paged entries on the web actually decrease rather than increase usability.

more is for when you want to have an except appear on places like the homepage and the nextpage is to make a post span multiple pages.

edit: looks like StrangeAttractor was faster than me

Does the built-in WP stats track whether visitors actually click to go to the next page?

    Thanks for the explanation.
