What’s the syntax to show recent posts with date?

Once you’re pointing to the post object, you can get time date and month using this:

<?php the_time(‘F jS, Y’) ?>

Cool, that’s helpful! Although that doesn’t totally solve the issue.

<?php wp_get_archives('title_li=&type=postbypost&limit=3'); ?>

As you can see the limit is set to three, but when I implement your code as such:

<?php wp_get_archives('title_li=&type=postbypost&limit=1'); ?> <?php the_time('F jS, Y'); ?>

It only lists the date for the first item. Is this an improper use of the_time? Or is that the wrong syntax all together?
