    What code?

Short answer is no, you will not see P or BR tags in the HTML section. Those are handled by WordPress later.

The content should ideally be fairly HTML free in the editor. Let WordPress deal with that part of the HTML.

    The Html code.

If you can’t add in p’s and br’s etc how can a novice actually update pages and so on ? Everything will be bunched up with no spacing and [returns] paragraphs.

‘I’ can do this with css tab but how is the person I’m create the site for meant to do this ?

Sorry just to be clear when I add a br/ in the HTML editor it will not do anything ?

    Regards

    Ashley

    Don’t add anything.
1x Enter = will become line break (br) when published
2x Enter = will become paragraph (p) when published
(this is when the wysiwyg thing is turned off)

You don’t have to do anything.

    If the wysiwyg is on:
    1x Enter = paragraph
    Shift+Enter = line break

The return does work as with most computer based programs until the page is saved then I visit the actual page and its been lost ?

Then when you go back to the edit page it not as saved any more either.

Basically if I add text or other tags like say li etc it saves fine, but paragraphs, returns, p, br etc no ?

    Strange.

Are is it something to do with the ‘Use the visual editor when writing’ option in the ‘User’ profile area ?

Ok that worked for me atleast but for the girl I’m making the site for who doesn’t know html there is going to a problem.

Is there a way around this maybe a plugin ?

I appears that this ‘visual’ editors is a problem to many people, the version I am using is 2.5.1 has this problem been dealt with with newer versions ?

    Anyone !!

    Thanks

    Ash

Don’t try to add your own code if you are using the visual editor.

Unlike with an offline word processor, you can’t add multiple empty lines (empty paragraphs). The space between paragraphs is controlled by your theme’s css in style.css. Some themes just don’t have enough space between paragraphs and this needs to be adjusted with css.

Ok so its related to the theme I am using ?

Sorry I am designing the site for someone else who simple doesn’t know html, css etc, how do people use WP as a Blog or website control the textual layout of the page like you do in Word etc without coding knowledged?

I am a little confused and frankly disappointed, why can’t you just press return and theres a space ?

WP doesn’t seem to be quite as easy as it says.

By choosing a theme with sufficient paragraph spacing. Good web paragraph spacing should result in what appears to be a blank line between paragraphs. For example, the text in this forum has proper paragraph spacing.

Similar problem, very frustrating. When i am in the visual editor, I hit enter. I “see” a space in-between the paragraphs, but the HTML has no <p> tags.

I can`t get a line space. It just jumps back when I hit update page..

so when I add a blockquote beneath a picture, it glues together. I can`t get space between them.

Has there been a solution to this since it was brought up?
Do everybody use the dashboard and visual editor, or can you use other tools too?

    My problem is;
New page. Add a photo at the top. Then I want a “” text field. But I can?t get space between..
Has it something to do with the page width and the photo width?
Page is 655 now and the photo 650
If the photo is smaller, the text will go to the right of the picture.
And it`s often a difference in whats shown in the editor and the final result when published!
