• Hi

    I hope someone can help!

I have a WordPress site that I upgraded WP to the latest version, 2.9.2. Last weekend. I upgraded from version 2.8.5 and did the upgrade as I always do and it worked without any problems, or so I thought. After it had completed I tested the site by loading the homepage and it appeared to all work fine.

Now I’ve just had the first opportunity to go back into my site since last weekend, as I’ve been away and have discovered that my site isn’t working. When I try to load a page, either on the site itself or in WP Admin etc, I get a message along the following lines (it is slightly different depending on the browser but it’s basically the same)

“You have chosen to open (then there’s a blank space)
    which is a: application/x-httpd-php
    from: website address”

It then asks me do I want to open or save the file?

If I’m trying to view a page in Safari, it automatically downloads this file. I’ve just gone into my download files and noticed that the files that have been downloaded when I keep trying to load the sites are coming up as a “MS DOS Application” for my homepage and php files are showing as “PHP Script”. I’m not sure about the PHP Script but surely my home page as a “MS DOS Application”? That can’t be right, can it?!

I thought it might be a plugin problem whereby one was now incompatible with the new version 2.9.2. But as I say above, it can’t even into WP Admin either so I couldn’t disable any plugins. I therefore had to go through FTP can delete plugins from the directory. I got down to deleting every plugin I had and it was still the same, it just downloads a file when I try to load a page.

The only page I can see that works properly on the site is a stand alone .html file.

Many thanks for any help out there, please!!!

Look forward to hearing from you soon.

    Cheers

  • Try rebooting your computer and restart your browser.

If that doesn’t work, take the exact error message and punch it into Google and see what comes up.

Hopefully it’s not a server issue.

    Hi

Many thanks for your reply, greatly appreciated. Unfortunately, that hasn’t sorted the problem, never mind!

I don’t think it’s a server issue as I have other sites on the same one that are ok. However, I’ve just sent them a support ticket just in case.

Thanks again! If you think of anything else please do let me know.
    Cheers
