• Everything I read about this seems to indicate the following:

    – Blog posts are more often read in the late morning (10-11 AM)
    – Social media checked more often around late afternoon or dinner time

Thus, it seems people recommend publishing a post around 10 AM and sharing it on social media later in the day. However, this seems based on two factors: the blog reading seems based on those who are subscribed, and the social media is focused more on social sharing.

However, I currently use Jetpack’s auto share feature which shares the post to social media as soon as its published. This is not about Jetpack, but about publishing timing. Other plugins I find seem to do the same.

So, other than the “based on your readership” (a common answer), when is the best time to publish a post and have it sent automatically to social media? My goal is to increase readership, not just appeal to the tiny handful I currently have.

Don’t worry about timing, a lot of those articles mentioning specific time don’t take into account one very important factor: timezones.

Sure, I could say that 10 AM is the perfect time to publish your posts, but whose 10 AM is that? Yours? Your readers in California? Your readers in New York? Your readers in the UK?

Perhaps you publish at 10 AM for your readers in the UK? That won’t do your readers in California much good at 2 AM their time. Or, the reverse, perhaps you publish at 10 AM for your readers in California? That won’t do your readers in the UK much good at 6 PM their time.

See what I mean? You’re online now with a worldwide audience, there is no 10 AM. There is only the time you are ready to publish, and whatever time that translates to where your readers are located.

This is why folks take the effort to follow the sites they want to follow, via things like RSS, email, Twitter, Facebook, etc. You can publish when you want to publish, and whenever your readers want to read, they have a way to easily find everything they missed.

Publish what, when, and how you want to. Let your audience come to you. You’ll build a much stronger and loyal following that way than you would if you tried to tailor everything to a small subset.

Very good points, MacManX. I’ll just publish when I am ready.

BTW, while I could consider this thread “closed” or “resolved,” I think it’s better to leave it open for further discussion and alternate viewpoints.
