My blog is about 13 years old and just plugs along quite nicely, however over the last two days I’m averaging over 500 visitors coming from a Facebook page, and I would dearly love to know which one ..

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks.

  • Unfortunately, no outsider can give you a definitive answer to that question.

Two possibilities that come to mind are:

    — Your content was shared on some popular Facebook community
    — Facebook’s external crawlers are going crazy on your site

Note that unless you’ve identified specific Facebook.com referrer URLs, “Facebook” here could refer to any Meta property, as the ASN Label for their entire IP space is “Facebook” (likely for historical reasons).

Thanks George, I thought something was suspect when of all these (supposed) viewers, none left a comment.

I wouldn’t be so quick to discount them as “susposed” viewers. ??

Social media can be very powerful, you can quickly find a lot of viewers for your very specific post simply being shared in a very specific place. Also, keep in mind that viewers rarely leave comments.

One thing James, my site is only getting viewer hits on one post out of 1,100 – with all the others it’s business as usual and today (Monday) it’s all over and back to normal for the post that was getting the hits, like yesterday it got over 500 and today 2.

Yeah, that to me says someone shared that one post on Facebook. ??
