I have been trying to find the basics for the use of plugin Chessgame Shizzle. I have installed and activated the plugin but I have no idea how to use it. Do I have to import chess games from a PGN-file? It does not seem like I can add a chess game directly into the plugin? Where do I find the absolute basic for the use of this plugin? Thank you

Hi, please read the documentation. If this plugin had 1 million users that all need handholding, this plugin could not exist.

You can add chessgames by using “New Chessgame” in the dashboard. Or import chessgames from a PGN file. Or use the shortcode for an upload form on a page.

And what do you mean with “It does not seem like I can add a chess game directly into the plugin”? You can, for sure. Is there something you expect that isn’t there? I am always open for feedback.

Ok, thank for your reply. I am sorry for my ignorance but I dont understand what kind of annotations I use in order to register a chess game directly into the edit board. I tried 1. e4 e5 to test but I guess I misunderstand this plugin.

By the way, I am not sure what you mean by documentation. I read the description but that does not explain the basic annotation for registering a chess game.

Ok, now it is beginning to work. I had to add the moves also in metadata.

Aha, how do you write down a chessgame. That is a good question ??

It is not up to me to explain PGN data in detail, but I could point to some documentation about this.
At Wikipedia there is a short description:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portable_Game_Notation

Also, the meta-field for PGN has a little help text.

    Does this help you?

Thank you for your help sofa.

When you talk about documentation, do you mean this site?

Yes, the text you see there is all part of the readme, that is included in the zipfile of the plugin.

You can see the text version of the current version:
    https://plugins.trac.www.ads-software.com/browser/chessgame-shizzle/tags/1.2.8/readme.txt

The readme that is part of the development version is in trunk:
    https://plugins.trac.www.ads-software.com/browser/chessgame-shizzle/trunk/readme.txt
Though the real development happens in git on Codeberg. When I tag a new version, it all gets committed to SVN here.

You are new here at WordPress it seems ??
Feel free to ask a few questions. I hope I didn’t come across too unfriendly in my first reply.

I have been using WordPress for ten years, but I am new to this chess plugin. I have been playing chess for much longer so I am quite familier with chess notations.

On this site it does not say anything about HOW to add chess games to the plugin

    https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/chessgame-shizzle/

    It only says the following:

“Editors and guests alike can add chessgames in PGN format through a frontend form.”

It does not say anything about how to use chess-notations to add games.

I have now learned to do this by trial, error and success.
