• The instructions for correcting a problem with a permalink say to empty the .htaccess file and recreate it by resetting permalinks. The instructions say to go to Manage > Files. I can’t find that.

    What instructions?

To edit a file, you’ll need to use an FTP program to download it, edit it in a text editor, and then reupload it.

I found the instructions in documentation for correcting the permalinks to get rid of a 404 Page Not Found error. Where is the .htaccess file found? Then I can correct it. Thanks

The .htaccess file is in the main WordPress directory, after you change the permalinks options. Or, if WordPress cannot create it, it will tell you to do so and give you the lines that should be in it.

And when I said “What instructions?”, I was asking a question as to where are these instructions that you are following, exactly? The documentation is big, and I don’t know what exactly you’re reading unless you point me to it specifically.
