Where do the "id" numbers come from?

I want to change the pics in my gallery, which I set up a couple years ago. However, I can’t remember or figure out where to find the id numbers that are in the code: ‘[gallery ids="1,2,3]‘. I’ve looked at the plugin, the edit page, and the images in the library and I see no id numbers anywhere. Thanks
