I have an “old” WordPress site with FTP working OK.

FTP is also working OK in my FTP software (Filezilla).

I’ve created a new WordPress site and I can’t make FTP work (using the same info from Filezilla).

I guess if I can copy the FTP configuration from the old WordPress site, it should work on the new site.

But I don’t know where WordPress stores the FTP settings. Is there a file or an admin page where I can check that FTP info?

Wordpress has to store it somewhere, because it never asks for the FTP info anymore on the old site, it just works.

I’ve tried searching for this, but all I get are instructions to set up FTP (not what I want).

    Thanks!

  • Hi @migueltic You can get FTP details from your hosting server. If your old ftp is just pointing to old website folder, then it will not show your new website. So create new ftp from server and select path of new website folder and use those details.

Thanks, but you haven’t answered my question.

I know the FTP details (as I’ve said, FTP works perfectly when using my FTP manager: Filezilla). But I guess I’m doing something wrong when configuring it in my new WordPress site (because the FTP details that work with Filezilla don’t work in the new site).

But I have another WordPress site working OK, so it would be great if I could check the FTP settings that I introduced months ago on that old WordPress site.

If someone knows where WordPress sites store the FTP settings that you introduce, please let me know.

I didn’t find the answer to my original question (where to check the saved FTP details), but I solved my problem.

The old site was not asking for FTP credentials because the files had the correct owner.

In my case, doing “sudo chown -R www-data /var/www/html” on the new site, following https://www.digitalocean.com/community/questions/ftp-for-wordpress solved it (it stopped asking for FTP details).`
