where is a good step by step tutorial?

    i’ve got wordpress installed but would like to customize it. i have a layout drawn on paper but don’t know how to put it on wordpress. is tehre a good site to learn from? i’ve tried a few sites but i keep getting errors! the wordpress they are teaching are old versions.

    please help!!
