Where is the documentation for Twenty Sixteen?

That’s what I want to know.

You start with making a child theme:

Then check the table of contents of the parent style.css

You then make changes in the child style.css and/or functions.php.

For more advanced usage you can make changes by copying phps such as header.php to the child theme folder and make changes there. See the first link.

Do not edit the parent theme folder as upgrades to the theme will overwrite your changes if your custom things are done in the parent theme.

This is a bit different from commercial themes where you have a lot of options. But this WordPress way is much more powerful

@superpoincare A child theme does not create documentation for Twenty Sixteen or any theme.

@argumentum. Thank you. That gives some basic documentation but I’m surprised to find some documentation on the wordpress.com site. I thought you couldn’t modify .com themes.

I’ve made some modifications in my child theme but I was hoping to find some detailed information for how to modify the .org theme further than what you can do with the .com theme.

Sleepless, when WordPress says it’s easy to customize, read the documentation, I believe it means customize it with a child theme. The documentation part is link on how to create the child theme.

But just going through the (parent) style.css/functions.php should give you a good idea of what the theme does. It’s written very well.

You can modify themes on WordPress.com, but as Twenty Sixteen is a theme available to .org sites too, you can use it on a self-hosted www.ads-software.com installation. And it’s available at WordPress.com too, that’s why you can find it on themes.wordpress.com

As said by @superpoincare, if you wanna edit this theme, the best way is creating a child theme.
