Where is the .maintenance file?

.maintenance file:
– That file is invoked on the fly doing an auto upgrade.
– It is a hidden file like .htaccess files. You can delete it using FTP program or loging in server and select to view hidden files. You will see it by your .htaccess file.
– How to clear the “Briefly unavailable for scheduled maintenance” message after doing automatic upgrade?

Note to Moderator: I did not “bump” to put my thread to the top of the list, it was because I had thought of something else to type that may have been useful to any kind person that took the time to read my query. I think the difference between “bumping” and adding a PS/afterthought is evident from the content of a message.

It looks like what led a moderator to think you were bumping was that you asked, “It would be nice if someone could answer me, and let other member see my questions?”.

Gosh, I do apologise, that was indeed bumping. However, that comment of mine that you paste above resulted from the fact that my thread had completely disappeared from the forum list. With no explanation or (as I recall) cause).

I still have had no joy with updating to 3.8.1. Having tried everything I am inclined to start from scratch entirely: delete database, remote site etc and pretend I am where I was last summer when I did all the setting up. Shame. I only wanted to update so I could work on content, but having spent 16 hours this week on trying to update, it’ll be quicker to call it a day and start again. Good for the grey cells though I guess.
