I don’t see an option where to add albums. The only place I saw mention of albums is when I went to upload multiple photos at once, I got the prompt to add a new album. Other than that, I don’t see where to add albums, or where to delete existing albums.

Another question. When I upload a photo, I don’t get the option to add a description. I have to go back and edit it to add the description. Is it supposed to give me the option to add the description after it uploads?

  • Hi again,

I see the new functions, wonderful!
However, when uploading a video clip, there is a default image shown as the preview image instead of one captured from the video itself.

Any thoughts on how to fix this?

PHP cannot generate thumbails from video itself.

You will need to use premium FFMPEG addon https://rtcamp.com/store/buddypress-media-ffmpeg

Apart from generating thumbnails that addon also converts videos from other formats to web-friendly mp4 formats.

All of my servers have ffmpeg and full compression and converting tools installed on them. Isn’t there some way I can use those and not have to buy additional software I already maintain?

There should be an option for those who already know how to maintain their own tools don’t you think?

    Plugin Author Rahul Bansal

    (@rahul286)

There is an option – code yourself! It’s all open-source.

We need to keep few things premium so that we can support development of this project on ongoing basis.

    Sure, that’s an option.
Maybe you should say that in your promotional copy so people know what they are walking into before building their site.

This is not the spirit of open source and not everyone is a programmer.
I’ll be looking for something to replace BP-Media then.

    @voopress

If you think open-source means free then you don’t understand open-source at all! You can start educating yourself from here – https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1293277

As far as this buddypress-media plugin goes, I request you NOT to use it. Because many features will be premium going ahead which you may not like.

We are already telling in advance about this from long time – https://rtcamp.com/buddypress-media/roadmap/ (see note at the end). It looks like you did not read it.

Anyway, stop using our plugin before its too late.

I’ve been online since the freaking early 90’s, you’re not educating anyone in this thread friend.

And no, it’s not that I don’t like it. If it’s a good product, I have no problems buying and paying for it and in fact, prefer paying for features I depend on because if the authors are making money, at least I know the product won’t be abandoned.

You completely missed my point but what ever, you obviously seem to enjoy arguing so I won’t bother asking anything else.

    Plugin Author Rahul Bansal

    (@rahul286)

I do not enjoy arguing but I hate to answer stupid questions.

You already knew that solution to your problem was BPM-FFMPEG addon (see your other thread here)

Then what is the point in asking same question again!

You’re obviously just a person who enjoys thinking he’s all that.
What ever, it’s not like you have to respond to me you know. And your suggesting that I not buy something is silly because I may well buy it.

And no, I don’t clearly know what my answer is yet, everything seems to have limitations when it comes to WP and true social aspects other than sharing etc.

I may be on the right track with some of this but WP is all new to me, I’m learning it as I go so things aren’t clear just yet and there are a lot of dead ends when you are trying to figure out something like this. Just like the countless other projects I’ve learned.

We’ve been a Joomla house for many years, and have found WP to be an interesting alternative, minus all of it’s media issues compared to real social environments such as Joomla for example.

And that’s ok, everything has it’s differences, it’s functions and it’s intended purposes but I need to make media work so am trying to learn about it.
It would certainly make the learning a lot better if people like you didn’t act up like you are but hey, that’s open source ??

BTW, you’re just grasping because BPM-FFMPEG is exactly what I don’t need since I already maintain my own tools for other sites on these servers. As I said, I already have a full range of conversion and compression tools which of course includes FFMPEG.
And, that brings me right back to the original question and your reply.

It’s far from a stupid question asking how I can use my own tools. I guess there’s an opportunity for a competing plugin however, the price of your tool is fine, the real problem is that it doesn’t cover all that many formats sadly.

    Plugin Author Rahul Bansal

    (@rahul286)

That’s the problem with you. You don’t read things in detail and jump to conclusions.

BPM-FFMPEG does not install FFMPEG. It talks to media-node project, a FFMPEG queue manager written in node.js to handle parallel processing and queuing of videos which you don’t have among your own tools.

    Plugin Author Rahul Bansal

    (@rahul286)

Just to add… If u think our $49 plugin simply makes FFMPEG exec calls then that is not our style. We ask for money only if it costs us too much to develop something or we anticipate we will have to provide a great deal of support. This FFMPEG addon meets both criteria.

By the way media-node project is also open-source – https://github.com/rtCamp/media-node

In case you decide to develop you own bridge between FFMPEG and buddypress media, you may use media-node wrapper to improve things for your users.

That’s the problem with me??? ROFL, this is the first time we’ve ever communicated, give me a break.

As to your support comment, if you mean insulting and getting into arguments with potential customers, that’s not exactly great support.

The price is fine, that’s not the issue. The issue is that I felt there should be a way for me to use my own, already installed tools. Simple as that.

    Plugin Author Rahul Bansal

    (@rahul286)

What’s the point in asking questions when u already know the answer?
It will be good for us atleast if you don’t use our products.
    Please use alternatives.
