Where to put category code for sidebar

  • Please help a newbie!
    i have gleaned a lot of info about categories and subcategories, with many people having issues getting their children to show up on their pages under parents, so ive tried a bunch of these ideas. I can get the parents and children to show up, but never where i want them to. Can someone help me? i need to know where to put the code so my categories show up on the podcasting/rss feed sidebar on the media page of my site.
