I want to see my blog and I want to administer it. But I’m having great difficulty navigating around.

    I log in.

I find the ‘dashboard’. Is that the ‘admin’ screen? It doesn’t say so.

There seems no link from there to view the blog.

I read the help stuff and it says go to the admin screen – well, I can’t find that, but I find the dashboard and various other screens – and it says keep viewing the ‘view site’ thing to see what effect your changes are having.

I don’t see any such link.

I had a frontend on it that showed me just one post and no links whatever to go anywhere else, do anything else.

I found how to change ‘appearance’ and got a different appearance up but still found myself in a screen with no way out.

I’d like to see clear links to : ‘administer’, ‘post’, view blog on every screen. I see them nowhere. I never know what I’m doing.

I read everything I can find to read and just exhaust my poor head and get majorly screwed by things like that ‘use the ‘view site link’ that simply isn’t there. Nothing screws me more than instructions I can’t follow.

There’s my blog: https://www.southsforum.com/blog When I go to it now I see the ‘about’ post that I’ve just rewritten because it all popped up again in default after updating the version. And it offers the choice of ‘comment’ – but it doesn’t offer me any choice of making a further post. Is that okay? Is that because my computer knows it is me and I’m logged in?

No. It’s not that. I just logged out and tried it. That figures, too, logged out it wouldn’t let me post, would it, because it’s not ‘my’ blog then. So why doesn’t it allow? Is it that it doesn’t allow two consecutive posts? That couldn’t be true, surely?

Or am I totally on the wrong screen, looking at ‘about’ ? Then where’s the link to get on the right one?

What am I doing wrong? How’s the quickest way to get to a plain and simple dumb bloke’s way of doing simple things with the blog?

This thing itself is similarly confusing. How am I to get an answer? Do I have to keep coming back here and looking to see if anyone has posted? There’s no ‘subscribing’ to the topic as there usually is on a forum? What?

This is all wonderful software, without a doubt – and especially wonderful for being free, so I certainly wouldn’t want to be a petty carping critic, certainly not.

But I’m honestly confused, bewildered, lost and especially so as the software is so good: it doesn’t make sense, how could such excellent software be so hard to use? It must be something I’m doing wrong. But look at this now, for instance… where does it tell me how to know if I’ve got replies?

    I can’t see it…..

    Help…….

    ??

    Dashboard = “admin screen”

and it says keep viewing the ‘view site’ thing to see what effect your changes are having. I don’t see any such link.

That was changed in a recent version of WordPress. As long as you have a Site Title entered at Settings/General, you’ll see the name of your blog in the top-left corner of the Dashboard. This is now a hyperlink, replacing the need for a separate “View Site” link.

I’d like to see clear links to : ‘administer’, ‘post’, view blog on every screen. I see them nowhere. I never know what I’m doing.

Basically, every administration task is done via the Dashboard. There should be a “New Post” button visible near the top-right on all Dashboard screens. The link to your site is visible in the top-left on all Dashboard screens.

And it offers the choice of ‘comment’ – but it doesn’t offer me any choice of making a further post. Is that okay?

You have to post from the Dashboard.

I think you’ll find this article to be of some use:
