• I am replacing Older Posts, Newer Posts and Keep Reading with buttons. I need to know which template I edit. I’m assuming older and newer are at the bottom of a template. I’m also assuming keep reading will replace [– More–] In a template for posts. But which page or template(s) is where I need your help.

I may need to edit the Comments templates, too, but think that’s it. Thanks.

  • This entirely depends on which theme you are using (???).

You do NOT edit theme files. Instead you create a child theme.

I prefer editing the core files as in the old days.

Aren’t the files I want the same for each theme?

If you edit the theme files, you will lose your changes when you update the theme.
There are thousands of themes and although they mostly contain the same files, they are all coded differently so it’s impossible to say which file to look at without knowing what theme you mean.

Creating a child theme is the best approach.

You’re right but this child theme came up when I was in a coma. It’s foreign to me though I have one for a site I have.

So, how do I create that? I need to know which files to recreate and edit, right? Then I need to edit some other files to point to a child, right?

Here are the instructions to get you started on with child themeing – https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Child_Themes
In order to help, were still going to need the name of the theme you are using though…

Ok, my test site uses The_Bootstrap.

Way back then, I would just code the upgrade to files myself. Luckily there weren’t major changes on many files but I was learning coding so I could do this. The child is a wise idea.

    Thanks.
