• Hi experts I have an Android Rooting website, currently I am using this kind of permalink > website.com/postname/

Some of my friends told me that website.com/category/postname is better URL structure, so I want to change my site URL now. But all the post in google is giving 404 error.

    What to do ??

  • Ok so you already changed your url/permalink structure?

Normally WordPress would redirect the old links to the new url.

You could use a plugin like Redirection of if all your posts have the same category you could rewrite the url with htaccess.

Anyway you need to redirect the old url’s with a 301 header code so that Google knows it’s been moved.

If you have a lot of urls I’d just change the permalink back to the old one, save you a lot of trouble.

Personally I don’t support the argument for the simple reason that your category in most cases will have the same keyword that you use in your post name. That is, it will be a repetition of the same keyword in the same URL (of the post) and it can only harm you. There is yet another reason not to subscribe to such ideas because search engines like Google just ignore keywords, used anywhere, including keyword meta tags.
