Which theme or template to choose?

I’m new to WordPress and blogging but want to select the right theme or template for what I want to accomplish. The blog will mostly be photographs of my work which are in landscape as well as portrait format. There will be brief descriptions along with the images. On the front page I would like a large image frame where 7 or so images will present in a slide show along with navigation selections for other pages. Here is an example of a website with a design similar to what I am describing. https://danaooutdoor.com/home.php The issue for me is how the differently formatted images will be handled on the front page. I want the image frame and page background color to expand or contract to the images as they change within a specified maximum size for each format. Can this be accomplished in WordPress?

Another thing I would like to have the option of doing is adding videos – but that’s not a deal breaker.
