    Hi,

I am running WordPress 4.8.5 with the Twenty Seventeen theme and the following plugins:
    1. Askismet Anti-Spam 4.0
    2. Jetpack by WordPress.com version 5.4
    3. Updraftplus – Backup/Restore version 1.4.2
    4. WP Super Cache version 1.5.7.1
All compatible with WP version 4.8.5

My question relates to the following image:

To update do I press the blue update button that will update my site to the GB version of WP or do I update to the US version or both? Then do I update the plugins? Should I deactivate the plugins before pressing the blue button? I am Australian but I am using UK English on the site.

Please explain using simple steps as it is my first time.

    Cheers,

  • Hi there,

In order to retain the use of UK English I would…

    1. Press the Blue button underneath the GB Version.
    2. Then you can update your plugins if they need to be updated, oftentimes your plugins will update at different times and not always with the overall WordPress update.
    3. No need to deactivate your plugins before updating.

    Cooee.
Yes use update to the GB version, (I was using an Aus specific version like wordpress-4.8-en_AU.zip, but have not been able to find the updates recently)
I update the themes and plugins BEFORE updating core. My reasoning is that just occasionally a core change requires a theme or plugin update, and I will get these fixes, whereas backward compatibility is just about universal. So taking the updates first has minimal downside.

Just tracked down the downloads here: https://en-au.www.ads-software.com/txt-download/

Thanks for both of your replies, and the cooee.

I will follow what you say.
