When I try to create a new post and attempt to type in the text box, the letters appear white and there is no cursor identifying my place in the passage. Highlighting the words allows me to see what I had typed and they appear normal when I preview the post but I’d like to be able to see what I’m writing obviously. The same problem occurs when I examine old posts in the edit stage so it is not just new posts. The problem occurs when I use both Firefox and Internet Explorer.

Try deactivating all plugins. If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

If that does not resolve the issue, try switching to the Default theme (WordPress 1.5 – 2.9.2) or the Twenty Ten theme (WordPress 3.0 and higher) to rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can affect the admin panel).

The problem still exists after deactivating all plugins. The problem still exists after switching to the default theme.

Is there a way I can return to an older version of WordPress? Maybe that would solve the problem. Is it possible this is a bug in version 3.0.1 that effects only some?

You could download WordPress 3.0 and replace all of the core files, but you can’t downgrade your database, which may cause some problems later.

I don’t think so, there are a few more things to try.

Try downloading WordPress again and delete then replace your copies of everything except the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory with fresh copies from the download.

If that didn’t resolve the issue, try adding define('CONCATENATE_SCRIPTS', false); to your wp-config.php file just below the define('DB_HOST' line.
