I had a perfectly working WP site and tried to, ham fistedly, redirect to a temporary file. I messed with a few places to try and get this working but none of them did.

Ultimately I tried to get back to the start with no changes. What I have now is a blank white page and no site.

    What a numpty!

I have not updated to 3.5 yet so I was hoping to just re-install WP – but I don’t want to loose my database of posts and pages.

All help for a poor designer is welcomed.

I messed with a few places

In the theme’s templates or the WP core files?

If you was just messing in the theme, then:

    – To rule out any theme-specific issue, try switching to the unedited default twenty eleven theme for a moment using the WP dashboard. If you don’t have access to your admin area, you can switch to the default theme by renaming your current theme’s folder in wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using via FTP or SFTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

More info: The web page is adding in the /temporary/index.html part of the redirect process. This is either occurring at the domain level ( but no redirects are in place there ) or with the WP/Settings/General – however, I cannot get to the Settings General page because of the redirect.

I renamed the old theme as -old and tried again. This time the old site showed up without any css, but the /temporary/index.html is still being added to the address. I am thinking that this is not a WP issue and is at the domain level. I have contacted the support there to see if it is on that side.

    Thanks

    ok

They have replied stating that it is not at the domain side. I have to agree, I cannot see any redirect in place and I can navigate to the root readme.html file.

Thus I believe that I have added the ‘temporary/index.html’ to the SITE URL or somesuch in the General Settings tab of WP. Now I cannot get to log in because of the redirect.

So now I think I need to reinstall WP but not overwrite the database. Is that possible? Am I on the right track there?

Scratch that. New contact from the admins say that they have made ‘a change’ and have fixed the problem. Thank you for the help.
