I tried to update WordPress today, but it obviously failed. I only got a white screen (Dashboard and Website) now…

    I already tried:
    – delete maintenance-folder
    – rename plugin-folder
    – rename theme-folder
    – raise memory limits
    – tried to delete everything and upload the old files
    – flush browser cache etc.

    Nothing worked. Any other ideas?

Already tried to access the error-log to see what’s the problem, but I can’t. Even tried it by inserting define( ‘WP_DEBUG’, true ); into wp-config, but it doesn’t change anything.

    ??

  • You can contact your host via live chat if possible to help you locate your error logs and possibly they can assist in getting your site back. If nothing else, they may be able to restore to a previous day’s backup.

They can’t… already tried that. Noone available on Sunday. So no chance to get the error logs today and I’m somehow pretty sure I won’t get any the next days, too (just thinking of the last problem I had).

Who is your host? I’ve never heard of any not available on Sunday.

I have no idea who is, just got the login data and a friend who owns the site and tells me he can’t reach anyone. At weekends not at all and only in the evening on Monday, Tuesday etc… We had another [solved] problem with the website some days ago, and there was no help at all, too. I’m in fact just the one who tries to repair WP and has to deal with the given issues…

So I try to do my best in fixing the problem without error-log or at least without the website’s host.

    What is your url?

Update: Installed WP 4.0 manually for the second time now, and I can now access my Dashboard again without themes or plugins. The website itself still shows a white screen, but it’s one step closer to a solution. ??

There also seems to be a big problem with Sahifa theme, which is not updated yet and doesn’t work with updated WP 4.0. I’ll try to update it and look what happens…

White screen is normal if you remove the themes.

Sahifa has to wait… think that’s not causing the main problem.

Since I got a working Dashboard again, I now renamed the themes and plugins again (to their original names). I disabled all plugins and activated “Twenty Fourteen” theme. Wp-config.php doesn’t lack a line or something like this… any other ideas why there could be still a white screen?

Finally… found the problem, and it was quite simple. WordPress is installed in a subfolder, and index.php just has the wrong link in its “require( dirname( __FILE__ ) . ‘wp-blog-header.php’ );” . That’s it.

However, thanks to anyone taking a look at the “problem” so far.
