White screen of Death – Serious bug!

I did the last upgrade and since then have been in plugin hell. On my twenty fifteen site it collided with TablePress. The final fix for that was to delete ESI completely and reinstall. However with my twenety fourteen site (I do not have TablePress installed) when I try to go to Installed Plugins page I get a white screen. I fired up FileZilla and deleted ESI from the Plugins directory. The Installed Plugins page reappeared. I reinstalled ESI – white screen returns. My site shows social icons but FileZilla does not see ESI in the Plugins directory. Where the hell is it? (yes I refreshed the display and even killed and restarted FileZilla). I can’t do a direct delete of ESI so I renamed the Plugins directory, created a new one and uploaded my backed up plugins (without ESI). INSTALLED PLUGIINS PAGE IS BACK! For those that speak C/C++ as a thirty year experienced software engineer I would say this is acting like a resource leak or a new/delete mismatch but I don’t do much php, etc. yet so I am only guessing.
