White text in visual editor

  • When I try to create a new post (WP 3.4.1), I can enter the title no problems.

    When I move to the body, however,

    (a) in the visual editor any text I type in is invisible (white on white) – it is there, if I double click on somewhere where I guess there is text, a word shows up in blue;

    (b) if I click on the tab for HTML, nothing happens.

    Is there some way to restore this functionality?

    The only thing I changed before this problem emerged is that I have installed the Sucuri WP plugin and implemented the 1-click hardening. However, the URL I am using to access my WordPress installation is in the white list already.

    I contacted Sucuri support.

    They had me remove the .htaccess file that the plug-in created in:

    public html > wp-includes

    That seems to have restored the functionality.
